Dr. James Whitelock graduated from Bloomsburg State College with a B.S. in Biology, and in 1982 he graduated from Southern College of Optometry with a Doctor of Optometry. Dr. Whitelock is a member of the American Optometric Association, Pennsylvania Optometric Association, the Central Pennsylvania Optometric Association, and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry. The American Academy is an organization founded in 1922 committed to promoting the art and science of Optometry through lifelong learning. Dr. Whitelock is a clinical examiner for the National Board of Optometry. The clinical skills section of the National Boards is a practical exam designed to assess the competency of candidates to perform optometric exam procedures. Dr. Whitelock is a board member of the Chambersburg Noontime Lions Club and a member of the Chambersburg Roadrunners Club. Dr. Whitelock has been with Allegany Optical since 1983.

Dr. Whitelock lives in Chambersburg with his wife Susan, an adjunct professor of Education at Wilson College. His daughter Jennifer is a teacher in Phoenixville and daughter Lindsay is a Biology major in College. Personal interests include, gardening, running, reading, fitness training, yoga, kayaking, bicycling, golf, and upkeep of rental and vacation properties.
